This small group, Working With Dreams, is open to anyone who has ever wondered about their dreams and would like to learn more about them. We will briefly review the changing understanding of dreams, starting with theories of Freud and Jung, followed by the Gestalt approach of Fritz Perls. Current ideas, like those of Jeremy Taylor, Gayle Delaney and Robert J. Hoss will be introduced. We will review what has been learned from sleep studies.
Group members will be asked to bring in samples of their own dreams to discuss. We will learn how to:
keep a dream journal
improve recall of dreams
use the Dream Interview to deconstruct a dream and look at its elements
translate dream images for the individual dreamer
The 6-session group meets weekly for 2 hours at Colony Park, 1999 South Main Street, Suite 500E, in Blacksburg, VA. Use the form below to pre-register or contact Dr. Tessnear, 540-320-1883.
Many dream groups form when friends decide to get together to share their dreams. Such groups benefit from having a facilitator to structure meetings, provide guidance in working with dreams and monitor process within the group. Dr. Pam Tessnear is available to assist with such groups.
Carl Jung - dreams are symbolic, often containing archetypes, and giving us information about where we are headed
Jeremy Taylor - all dreams come in the service of health and wholeness
Gayle Delaney - others cannot interpret your dream and you can learn for yourself how its images relate to waking life
Robert J. Hoss - dreams have their own language, expressed nonverbally by the right brain
